DS-2019 Application Process
Our process requires interested potential visitors to contact a faculty member to request sponsorship. When reaching out, please include a curriculum vitae and a statement of intent that outlines your planned activities on campus.
The faculty member will need to approve all graduate school forms and documents for International Student and Scholar Services. The DS-2019 application fee is $350, with an additional $50 for each dependent. The sponsoring faculty member will cover these costs.
If you have questions about this process, please contact Genevieve Dubois at genevieve.dubois@utah.edu.
International students:
With faculty approval, the Department of Philosophy will coordinate with the International Center to initiate the DS-2019 documentation process for the visiting scholar. To complete this, the visitor must submit the following to the department:
- A photocopy of the biographical page of their passport.
- Proof of qualifications, such as degree translated into English, publications, or recommendation letters.
- Evidence of English proficiency, like TOEFL, Michigan Test scores, or a recommendation letter.
- Proof of financial support if self-funded or sponsored by a third-party.
- Proof of medical insurance.
To streamline this process, we now have a DS-2019 International Visitor Request Form.
Once the department receives all necessary documents, the International Center will process the forms and send a DS-2019 to the visitor. Processing typically takes 2-3 weeks, including background checks and federal procedures. Once complete, ISSS will notify the Department of Philosophy. The documentation will be sent via FedEx.
The visitor can then use this DS-2019 to apply for a visa. Please note that invitations will not be officially extended until the Department has received the visitor's visa information. Please contact the sponsoring faculty 3-6 months before your planned or expected travel dates.
Section for Faculty:

Students need to complete the highlighted sections. Each student’s home institution must review and sign this document before travel arrangements are made. In past cases, students planned visits were unable to proceed because their home institutions declined to sign the agreement due to disagreements over terms.
-
- Completed Registry Form.
- A faculty vote is required for this appointment.
- CV of the visiting scholar, student, or postdoctoral fellow.
- This process will allow the student to access the Marriott library and obtain a Ucard during their visit.
