About the Medical Humanities Major

 

Medical humanities uses ideas and methods from many different subjects like, theater, history, communication, philosophy, poetry, literature, dance and ethnic studies to explore how people experience health, sickness, and healing. 

It combines different fields to teach students interested in health and healthcare to be creative thinkers, good team workers, skilled communicators, eager to learn, focused on patients, ethically smart, and open to various perspectives and knowledge about health and disease.

Who is Medical Humanities For?

  • Students hoping to attend medical or dentistry school wanting to supplement their Biology major with attention to the humanistic side of medical/dental practice.
  • Students who are excited to bring an appreciation for history and civil rights to a career in public health. 
  • Students majoring in Communication who are particularly interested in medical journalism. 
  • Students who hope to work in a healthcare/healthcare-focused fields after graduation.

The degree requirements in Medical humanities allow students to tailor their course of study.

  • Choose 2 courses in each Core Area, 24 Credits
